The DareDevil Durags Story

In late 2006, owners Johnny and Julie Walford came up with an idea for interchangeable hatbands and launched their hat company called Soco Headwear, catering to the golf industry. They had over 200 accounts, primarily because of their new idea catering to the ladies. Julies mom and dad helped kick-start the company by doing all of the sewing and played a major role in discovering the headband/durag and what it was capable of doing.

At the time, Johnny was dealing Texas Hold-em tournaments in a poker league in the evenings. One night a buddy of his named Red (since passed) got knocked out early in the first tournament and was going to take a ride on his Harley Davidson. He asked Johnny if he could try out one of their red bandana hatbands... and thats how it all started!

Red came back all excited, telling everyone in the poker room that the band wouldnt blow off even at 80 mph. Johnny went home  very excited to tell Julie about the wonderful experience Red had with the hatband and that night they came up with a slogan for their new found product,'No Blow With Soco'

By the way, if that bandana hatband had blown off Red's head they would be still selling hats to golf courses!

That same night, Johnny woke up at 3:30 in the morning to use the boys room, when the idea of what to call their new sensation. He yelled out to Julie " I got it! I got it!" Julie woke up and went to the bathroom and asked " Whats wrong?"  Johnny said, " I got it Julie. I got it!" " It just hit me .... Daredevil Durags!" Julie asked: " Why that?"  Johnny said: " Because every guy thinks he's a daredevil and every girl thinks he's a little devil."

It wasn't long after that Julie made the band longer to tuck under the elastic for a full coverage durag look. Next she suggested they make them with bling!

About six months later they noticed some major players in the motorcycle industry were trying to imitate their creation, but very poorly. Because of those copycats out their they now have over 700 designs that clearly set them apart from the rest of the field. Their concept has helped them grow from a small company into an international success. People all over the world are wearing their designs and Johnny and Julie are totally loving it!!

I strongly suggest you check out their designs on their site and look for them at the next bike rally!

We will post updates on their upcoming travel schedule so you can be sure to meet these 2 fantastic people in person. Just talking to them makes it worthwhile, not to mention all the cool designs you get to sort through.
